Andy Buss and Steve Prange participate in the Polar Bear Bass Fishing tournament on the Six Span stretch of the St. Joe River in Elkhart, Indiana. It was a cold morning with an air temperature of just 25 degrees. The water was just 40 degrees.
We caught smallmouth bass with blade baits and ned rigs; however, we didn’t not catch the quality of fish necessary to be competitive. Throughout the video we discuss the how we caught the smallmouth bass that we did.
At the end of the video, I interview the winners, Trevor Nunemaker and Chase Laughlin. They share how they found and caught enough smallmouth bass to beat the star-studded field of cold water anglers. They used Erie Darter baits around wood and hard bottoms. Their presentation was unique.
