Abrasive and Adhesive Wear

Abrasive wear happens when the particular material is being removed from one surface, by another harder material. In results, hard particles of the debris between the 2 surfaces are formed. The terms scratching, gouging or scoring are used depending on the degree of abrasive wear. In simple words, the harder material scratches the softer material.

There are 2 condition in which abrasive wear occurs. The 2 body abrasion and 3 body abrasion. In the former, the harder surface rubs the other. Examples of these include mechanical grinding, cutting and machining. The latter involves a third body. This third body is generally a small particle of abrasive between the 2 softer rubbing surfaces.

Microscopically, abrasive wear causes asperities of the harder surface to press into the softer surface, with plastic flow of the softer surface formed around the harder asperities. These result in ‘microploughing’ and ‘microcracking’ where tangential motion is imposed.

This abrasive wear can be reduced by applying ‘hydrodynamic’ or ‘elastohydrodynamic’ lubricants at various film thickness. This separates the surfaces and wash out any contaminant particles in between. Using the correct coating material and various thermally sprayed techniques greatly benefits the resistance to abrasive wear.

Adhesive wear is often referred to ‘scuffing’. This happens when adhesive junctions that are newly formed lock together and as 2 surfaces slide across each other under pressure. When normal pressure is being applied, local pressure at the asperities become extremely high. Often times, the yield stress is exceeded. Then these asperities deform plastically until the real area of contact has increased sufficiently to support the earlier, applied load.

If no lubricants are used, asperities are to be cold welded together. Otherwise, junctions will shear and form new junctions. This said wear mechanism not only destroys the sliding surfaces, but permits the generation of wear particles. In turn, these wear particles lead to cavitation that can cause component failure.

I don’t know if bass can laugh, but I’ll tell you this: If you go bass fishing with the attitude of “I’m the smart human and you’re the dumb bass”, and bass are capable of laughing, then you can bet that they’re laughing at you. Catching a bass, catching any fish for that matter, is a whole lot like getting a date with someone who couldn’t be less interested in you. You need to spend a lot of effort deciding what to wear, what to say, how to stand, where to stand, and what you should smell like. Even if you get all of that right, you still might end up going home alone again. Let me show you the secrets of NOT going home alone. Easy Bass Fishing with Live Bait

Update 8/15/2017: I’ve received a lot of negativity for this video and I appreciate all the feedback. I had only just learned how to fish when I made this. This was just a lazy afternoon on the dock with the supplies I had just to have some fun. Don’t take it too seriously! Thanks for watching!

In this video, I go over my easy way of bass fishing with live bait. I use primarily bluegill but on this day, the wild shiners decided to show up. Hope you learn something and fish on!

What Wines to Serve for Dinner

The old general rules – red with red meat, white with poultry and fish – still apply, but there are exceptions, qualifications, nuances of intensity, tartness, dryness. Wine can alter the taste of food, food the taste of wine. Food and wine should enhance each other, not fight each other or cancel each other out.

Wine does not go well with chocolate, citrus, vinegar, artichokes, peppers, sweet corn, barbecue sauce, ketchup. If you do serve wine with these foods, make it a rosé, Gamay, or Zinfandel. Here are few suggestions:

Fish:

Shellfish: Sauvignon Blanc, Chablis, Chardonnay, white Burgundy, Muscadet, Soave, sparkling wines.

Smoked fish and fish soup: Sauvignon Blanc.

Oysters: Chablis, Muscadet

Light fish: dry Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Sancerre, and white Burgundy.

Fish dishes made with red wine: young Bordeaux

Salmon and other meaty dish: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Sauvignon Blanc, white Burgundy, white Zinfandel.

Meat:

Veal and pork: Beaujolais, Chardonnay, Dolcetto, white Rhône wine, Riesling.

Veal, beef, meat loaf: Merlot.

Grilled steak: Zinfandel.

Lamb: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Bordeaux reds, Zinfandel.

Meat stew: Zinfandel, Côtes-du-Rhone, Châteaunefu-du-Pape, Gigondas.

Poultry:

Chicken: Beaujolais, Chardonnay, Dolcetto, white Rhône wine, Riesling.

Duck: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot.

Poultry stew: Côtes-du-Rhône.

General:

Spicy Southwestern, Mexican, Oriental Food: Côtes-du-Rhône.

Shrimp or chicken salad: Soave, Sauvignon Blanc, Fume Blanc.

Fruit salad or fruit soup: dry Riesling.

Salty and highly seasoned foods: sparkling or sweet wines.

Thanksgiving dinner: any color, young, matched to the stuffing – Rhône wine for chestnut dressing, Riesling or Gewürztraminer with apple stuffing, for instance.

Pasta with tomato sauce: Barbera, Zinfandel.

Pasta with vegetables: Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Soave, sparkling wines.

Cold salmon and oriental food: dry Riesling.

Tackle Bargains – The Better Choice

We all love a bargain and we all love fishing, so what is better than tackle bargains? End of line items and old so called out of date tackle is always available for us to purchase at rock bottom prices. The interesting point I want to make is that even though the tackle bargains are cheap and end of the line, ultimately at the end of the day they still do their job and catch fish.

The clear argument against this though is simply, more advance equipment is better at catching fish. These new tackles outweigh the old tackles through durability, performable, longevity and are in most cases much lighter. As fishing tackles become more advanced over time their price will also increase. With the increase in tackle prices bargain tackles look more and more promising. As tackle becomes more expensive and more sophisticated they begin to require more professional knowledge. But is there really a significant difference between these newly developed tackles and old tackles? No. Previous so called, state of the art tackles told us how they could make you catch more fish much quicker. Whilst these new and improved tackles suggest they are even better! Do you really believe this? I don’t.

Fish have always been caught. Yes it is true to say that with developments like LED baits for example, do significantly improve the chances of catching a fish but with new shaped LED light there is only a small increase with the amount of fish caught. So do you really believe it is worth spending your hard earned money on new innovations that have already been developed? Or should your money be spent on tackle bargains that are found in many tackle shops? In my opinion a true fisherman should only buy what he needs to fish. Advertisements should not play a part in persuading you to buy tackles you don’t need. It should be up to you if you feel this new technique will help you.

Controversially these so called new, advanced tackles will soon become redundant with the development of even newer types of tackles. With this in mind, I believe that in regards to fishing tackles it is financially beneficial for you to purchase tackle bargains rather than the state of the art tackles. With this technique you could possess these once state of the art tackles at bargain prices if you are willing to wait for them to come down in price. If they were so amazing at catching fish when they first came out, what difference should they make if they are a few years old?

So from this overview of bargain tackles it is possible to see that by buying bargain tackles you are saving yourself a lot of money in the long run. By buying tackles when they are old at a reduced price does not mean you will catch less fish you will still catch fish because the slogans once used to promote these tackles in the past will still be used on them and new tackles that have been produced.

River Fishing Trophy Smallmouth On Crankbaits | How To Catch Bass In Current

Big bass are stacked on current seams in a river. How would you catch them? We decided on a crankbait and it was a blast! We started a feeding frenzy and the fish were lining up for their turn at the deep crank.

We were positioning our boat downstream and working the crankbaits with the current along the edges of current breaks and seams. Most of the fish ate the crankbait on the pause, resulting in hard hooksets to catch up to them on the slack line that was drifting in the current. The current was fast but the smallmouth were even faster!

There is something special about getting away from the lakes and bass fishing in creeks, streams, and rivers. Its a peaceful change of pace from our typical fishing experience. If you get a chance to get out and catch smallmouth in current be sure and do it, you won’t regret it!

Special Children Taking to Apps Like Never Before

There are several ways by which smartphones and tabs have become useful in our lives. Though largely used for communication and entertainment purposes, these devices have also proved to be useful in education, business, and in the healthcare industry.

But smartphones and tabs have made the most interesting impact in the special children education sector. The devices have been identified as a useful learning apparatus to improve collaboration and engagement among students. There is a lot of buzz around the devices in the autism community. In fact, they have proved to be such a useful therapeutic tool that some special children’s organizations are providing grants to families to purchase one.

Benefits as a therapeutic device

For children lacking in motor skills, a digital learning app on a touch screen offers intuitive input. Computers from the older technology require visual shifting between a keyboard or the mouse and the screen. But with a digital learning app running on a tab or smartphone, special children can watch one of their fingers directly write on the screen, or select something, which in turn helps improving fine motor skills.

To autistic children, using touch technology is almost a natural phenomenon. Susan Williams, an instructor in an autistic elementary school, finds tabs and smartphones to be great supplemental apparatus for instruction. It’s almost like a fish taking to water, she says, moderating her student interactions using touch technology. Susan is an active promoter of technology in special education on various online platforms. She estimates that nearly 80% of her autistic students have got great results by using touch screen devices.

Personalizing lesson plans and apps

For special needs students, it’s important to understand each of them individually and how differently they’ll learn. With a digital learning app, teachers can make individualized lesson plans to assess the needs of every special child. There are several apps that are especially tailored for the needs of special children. Teachers can choose the best digital learning app that best fits their teaching methods and relevant to how the students learn.

The way special children are learning with smartphones and tabs is undeniably remarkable. It’s changing the way these children are taught in schools. These devices have improved many aspects in their life in more ways than we could have imagined.

For schools still hesitating whether or not to adopt a digital learning app for its special education classroom, the use of technology is expected to help in more ways than one. But for a proper implementation, make sure that your school has the backup technology like LAN connectivity or Wi-Fi routers in place.

Besides, the teachers should first get properly acquainted with the devices themselves before introducing them in the classroom. Each digital learning app has various customizable lessons appropriate for a particular level of the autism spectrum. Teachers have to discover the full potential of these apps and only then they can educate the students. And like Susan they too can champion the use of technology.

Apps for autistic children are here to stay and they will become more advanced in the coming days.
